Salford Crescent at 100:
Open Call for the Centenary Trail
In 2026, Salford reaches a remarkable milestone: 100 years as a city. To mark a century of Salford’s social, political, cultural and educational life, Untold History is curating the Salford Crescent Centenary Trail — a hyper-local walking trail and digital resource that brings together untold, overlooked and significant stories from across the Crescent area.
The project, commissioned by Crescent Culture Collective, is inviting open submissions from researchers, historians, artists, community groups, students and local residents to help shape this unique centenary project. Anyone aged over the 18 who has an interest in our local history is welcome to contribute.
About the Crescent Centenary Trail
The Crescent Centenary Trail will be a curated walking route made up of a minimum of 15 physical stops, each rooted in a specific place and story connected to Salford Crescent between 1926 and 2026.
Alongside the physical trail, all submissions that meet the criteria will be published on a dedicated Untold History webpage, creating a lasting digital archive that reflects the rich and diverse history of the Crescent and its surrounding community.
This project aims to explore how the Crescent has shaped – and been shaped by – wider Salford.
Help Shape the Crescent’s Next Chapter
The Salford Crescent Centenary Trail is an opportunity to bring forward stories that deserve to be seen and remembered. Whether your focus is radical politics, student life, everyday labour, migration, protest, architecture or culture – we want to hear from you.
Submissions are now open!
Full submission details, deadlines and the project map can be found in the project brief.

Manchester is a city which has witnessed a great many stirring episodes, especially of a political character. Generally speaking, its citizens have been liberal in their sentiments, defenders of free speech and liberty of opinion.
